On our blog we’re writing a series of posts called “A Day In The Life” which explain different elements of our camp’s daily schedule and rituals. In our first post on the topic, we mentioned that every evening during the Evening Huddle we’ll announce that day’s Maccabi Mensch.
What is a Maccabi Mensch, you ask? Well, Mensch is a Yiddish word meaning a “person of integrity or honor”. More specifically, a Maccabi Mensch is someone who has exemplified the values of camp through their actions that day. Of course everyone at camp is expected to live by our values of sportsmanship, teamwork, kindness, and treating one another with respect, but the Maccabi Mensch is someone who goes above and beyond.
The Maccabi Mensch is an honor that does not come with a 1st place trophy; it’s not a competition that campers compete to win, but rather an honor that everyone at camp strives to earn. More importantly, it’s a way of life that our campers will carry with them outside of camp.
Lindsay Kauffman will be our Soccer Head Coach for all three sessions this summer.
Lindsay has been coaching youth soccer for 15 years and has coached boys and girls ranging in age from 4 years old though college level in both outdoor soccer and Fustal (indoor soccer). She has served the Head Coach for several San Francisco high schools including The Bay School, Lowell High, and Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep. Lindsay has also coached at the club level for the SF Vikings and will be starting with SF Sol in the fall. In 2013 she coached the Maccabi US A women’s soccer team that competed in the international Maccabiah Games in Israel, bringing home the GOLD. (See photo at left of Lindsay with her gold medal!)
We are thrilled that Lindsay will be joining us at camp this summer!
