CIT: The Bridge to the Future of Camp
Maccabi Sports Camp offers a Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program designed for rising 12th graders who are passionate about sports, leadership, and the Jewish community. This program provides participants with the opportunity to develop essential skills, gain hands-on experience, and transition from camper to counselor roles.
Program Highlights:
- Leadership Development: CITs engage in workshops and training sessions focused on communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, and decision-making.
- Mentorship: Participants are paired with experienced counselors who provide guidance, support, and feedback throughout the program.
- Hands-On Experience: CITs assist in planning and leading camp activities, gaining practical experience in program development and camper supervision.
- Jewish Values Integration: The program emphasizes the incorporation of Jewish values and traditions into daily camp life, fostering a strong sense of community and cultural identity.
- Sports Focus: CITs have the opportunity to specialize in specific sports, working closely with coaches to develop coaching skills and deepen their understanding of sports education.
- Privileges & Fun: CITs will participate in unique programming (including off-site trips) and have special privileges unique to their program.
The Importance of Transitioning from Camper to Staff Member:
The CIT program serves as a crucial bridge between being a camper and becoming a staff member. This transition allows former campers to take on new responsibilities, view camp operations from a different perspective, and develop leadership skills in a familiar environment. By participating in the CIT program, individuals can seamlessly move into counselor roles, ensuring smoother camp operations and consistent camper experiences.
Benefits of Pre-College Leadership Experience:
Engaging in leadership roles before college has been shown to positively influence students’ leadership development during their undergraduate years. Pre-college leadership efficacy is a strong predictor of leadership efficacy for undergraduate students, with studies indicating that early leadership experiences contribute significantly to leadership development outcomes.
Additionally, participation in leadership activities during high school can lead to increased involvement in leadership roles during college and beyond.
Eligibility:
The CIT program is open to rising 12th graders who have demonstrated leadership potential, a commitment to working with children, and a passion for sports and Jewish community life.
Benefits:
- Skill Development: CITs acquire valuable skills applicable beyond the camp setting, including leadership, communication, and problem-solving.
- Community Building: Participants form lasting relationships with peers and mentors, becoming integral members of the camp community.
- Professional Experience: The program serves as a stepping stone for future roles in education, coaching, and community leadership.
