Coach Stu Katz is returning to Camp in 2022 for his second Summer as our Head Soccer Coach. Coach Stu recently retired from active coaching after his fourth season on the staff of University of North Carolina Greensboro Women’s Soccer Team. A graduate of Florida State, Katz has over 39 years of experience coaching players of all ages and levels.
During Coach Stu’s time on staff, the Spartans clinched back-to-back 2017 and 2018 SoCon Championship tournament finals and a NCAA Tournament spot. UNCG has had 14 players earn All-Conference honors from 2017-20, with Cienna Rideout and Nicole Souply grabbing SoCon Player of the Year and SoCon Freshman of the Year in 2018 respectively.
Prior to UNCG, Coach Stu led the Northern Guilford men’s program to its best season in school history while breaking every team defending record in the process. The Nighthawks led the entire state of North Carolina in least amount of goals allowed in the year (13). For his work, he was honored as conference and region coach of the year as well as a finalist for North Carolina Coach of the Year.
As a high school coach in both Florida and North Carolina, Coach Stu has won over 300 games, most of those years spent at Marjory Stoneman Douglas in Parkland, Florida. Coach Stu served as a staff coach for the North Carolina Olympic Developmental Program for eight years. He also served as the US Maccabiah Men’s Masters Coach at the Pan Am Games in Bueno Aires, Argentina. Coach Stu played on the US Maccabiah Men’s Masters Team at the games in Israel helping his team to a Silver Medal. Coach Stu has coached hundreds of athletes in multiple JCC Maccabi Games around the country.
Over the years Coach Stu has worked with countless college student-athletes, current and former professional players and players that have represented their countries in the Olympics and World Cup. He has mentored numerous former players who have gone on to coach at the club, high school and college levels. He is a Social Studies teacher at Northern Guilford High School and live in Greensboro with his wife, son, and two dogs. Coach Stu’s favorite team is Chelsea.
